More releases from TTCombat

While sorting through my Salute photos, I found a few old pictures of TTCombat terrain I haven't posted about yet and I will get those uploaded later today. Speaking of TTCombat their facebook page has some previews of upcoming releases:

Pew Pew Pew!

So after my X-Wing intro game a few weeks ago, I put together a 100 point Scum list which I finally got to try out this evening. On their first outing things went well, with plenty of ion tokens handed out to my opponent although forgetting to perform actions cost me a Scyk. Never the less they worked pretty well together. In my second game - a 2 vs 2 - my list performed well initially, but some bad maneuvering on my part meant that most of my ships were on fire and moments away from exploding before we ran out of time.
I will revisit the upgrade cards used by my ships, particularly the Hawk, to see if I can find a combination that makes them more survivable.. or more likely to hit and damage the enemy as either would have put me in better stead had the game continued.

Green Stuff, Green Minis, not painting things Green

So no gaming yesterday because there was babysitting to do, however I did get to spend an hour painting. I wasn't quite ready to start tackling my Bauhaus force yet.. mostly because there were still a few gaps to fill before I put on the base coat, so instead I decided to do something about all that resin grey scatter scenery I have.

After debating what color to spray my Spartan Scenics mess hall benches, I resisted the urge to paint them military green (mostly because I plan to put them on my Aliens corridor terrain one day) and instead painted them.. grey. Hm.

After a brief period where they looked like Picnic Tables In Spaaaaace, they are actually looking okay. Pics to follow.

This evening I broke open the new Super Dungeon Explore - Forgotten King box and the new minis (particularly the green enemy models) are fantastic. We played the Arcade mode this evening and the Royal Warden, Questing Knight and.. Centaur Chick battled their way through the first two tiles with ease before we ran out of time. Being able to play alongside my kids - instead of directing my minions against them as the Dark Consul - was great and although I need to double check a few of the rules, Arcade mode seems pretty solid.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss

So my Middenheimers were consistent in the final game of the TAGS Mordheim campaign, going out first in the seven way skirmish with a series of pretty bad rolls (5 attacks! No wounds :( ) leaving me with half my guys out of action by turn 3. There was a rout test, it was failed (naturally) and for my poor, beaten up mercs, the war was over.

Overall I really enjoyed playing Mordheim (even if I didn't quite finish painting my warband up by the time the campaign concluded) but it was a little disappointing to confirm what most people say about the game e.g. take as many cheap models with two hand weapons as you can get. It's not that I didn't enjoy the challenge of trying to make my warband work.. but at no point did I feel like my strategy of protecting my guys was finally starting to pay off. Oh well, should we play it again, I have more than enough bits left over to make 14 unarmoured henchmen all dual-wielding clubs.

The upside of going out early was that I finally, finally got to play a game of Infinity with my own Ariadna models (instead of a demo game at a con). I lost, naturally, but I can't really blame the dice too much because for every B:3 ranged attack that should have hit but didn't I would pull off a couple of very unlikely armour saves.. so most of my casualties were just down to user error on my part. We have a few weeks before the Infinity escalation league kicks off so I will hopefully have the time to get my Bauhaus painted up for the tournament and make a start on my Ariadna before the league starts.

The Road to the WZR International. 60 Days to go. 0 models painted

Accommodation secured, tickets booked and 60 days to get my army ready for a game I have very little experience in playing. Let's do this!

Batman never had this much trouble..

No Mordheim last night since I have played everyone in the campaign now, but I did play a demo of the Batman miniatures game instead. League of Shadows vs Joker's crew and boy, do guns hurt! Keeping up my losing streak from Mordheim, I lost the Batman game too although I think I'm going to have to read up on the rules before I decide whether or not I like the game. Thus far, I enjoyed playing the game, but don't like the mechanics of it. Requiring line of sight at the start of activation in order to get into close combat is a bit harsh when a model with a ranged weapon can move to get line of shoot, shoot, and then move back out of LOS.

I also received my TTCombat vehicles and got them assembled in time to take them to the Batman demo game (although they weren't needed). Really nice kits and a bargain for the price! Two MDF frames (one half size) and two small bits of acylic if you buy the Police variant:

I totally forgot to take pictures of the Police van on the frame but the layout it exactly the same, albeit with four small pieces that you put on the roof of the cab to accommodate the acrylic lights. As usual, very easy to build but I do have a few tips:

The pieces on the frame marked R and F are the axles for the rear and front of the vehicle respectively. When assembling the wheels, note that there are 8 segments with holes in the middle (to attach to the axle) but they are in two different sizes. Make sure you separate the smaller ones from the larger ones before you start gluing, as a wheel is comprised of a smaller segment with hole in it, larger segment with hole in it, segment with hub cap, and smaller segment with the rim of the tyre on it.

I also suggest gluing the wheel segments onto the axle one piece at a time, instead of assembling the whole wheel and trying to slide it on, otherwise it might get stuck half way and if you are using superglue you are going to have to take corrective action with a knife to fix the problem.
