Giant Robots FTW!

Progress continues - slow as ever - on the Undead Legionnaires from project 2 although still nothing worth taking a picture of. Some Perry Miniatures European Mercenaries arrived today along with some Viking Hirdmen from Gripping Beast.. both were going to form the basis of a kitbashed Mordheim warband since I will be taking part in a campaign starting next week. I anticipate some hasty clipping and gluing over the next five days!

In other news, I've been spending the last few evenings helping Youngest Son assemble one of his birthday presents - a 1/100 MG Jesta from Bandai. He has been surprisingly adept at clipping and assembling (maybe he can make my Mordheim warband for me!) and we have made quite a lot of progress considering how many parts there are.

Finally, The Troll Trader have put up a bunch of their TTCombat terrain up for auction on eBay. This stuff is great value for money at the regular price, so the chance to get it even cheaper should not be passed up.

MDF: Good! Ronin: Awesome! Painting Progress: Some!

So I managed to make it to PAW on the weekend where I played a game of Wild West Exodus (neat system and minis but luckily for my wallet, there isn't a faction I am really drawn to) and Ronin (2 x 2 board? Handful of miniatures? Simple d6 system? Sold!). I picked up a new Bauhaus starter to supplement - or replace - the Bauhaus minis I got from the Warzone Kickstarter plus a few bits and pieces from Ainsty. Riding a brief wave of motivation, I spent a few hours on Sunday and Tuesday night working on the Undead Legionnaires from Project 2 and most of the base colours are down but I'm still finding it hard going and things are looking too messy to really bother with pictures.. hopefully I will be able to work on them tonight and tidy them up a bit.

Finally the Troll Trader peeps took my suggestion on board about the Warehouse extension kit and it is already selling on their eBay store. Despite the fact that I've just about run out of room, I'll pick up the warehouse + extension, plus another extension, in anticipation of receiving my Batman rulebook in a few weeks time.

Project Progress

Partly fuelled by WildChevy's 60 Days of Painting challenge over at Beasts of War, I also made some progress with Projects 2, 4 and...6. What can I say. Project 6 is now "Paint my Imperial Assault" minis and it made it into the painting queue because Star Wars.

I've painted more of my Undead Legionnaires although I'm struggling with the paint scheme. I had intended to go with the traditional mega-corp colours for each Legionnaires.. but since they would have all come from the same theater on a single planet, those corporate troopers would probably be wearing fatigues suitable for the same kind of environment. So green and tan Capitol zombie is fighting alongside blue and white Bauhaus zombie.. and it just doesn't look right, even with a lot of distressing and weathering.

As for the Star Wars / Infinity conversions, I have almost finished the Trandoshan now and as soon as I have a lightsabre technique that I'm happy with, I will start on the two Jedi. White + 3 coats of clear varnish + 2 coats of clear varnish with dayglow pigment isn't working out as well as I hoped. 3 coats is nowhere near enough to create a barrier between the white and the blue, and the pigment powder is so strong that even a tiny bit seems to complete wash out the white underneath. More experimentation is required.

Finally, I've made a start on the hero models that come with Impeial Assault. So far I've only undercoated them and put down the base colours on two, but that's still further along than most of my other work! Also, Wayland shipped my Taurox just before Christmas so Project 3 is getting closer to being 'complete' - I just need to order the wheel kit from Victoria Miniatures and perhaps some arms too.

Progress

Some progress over the weekend on Project 2 (Warzone) - I finished applying the flesh colour base coat with the airbrush and started painting the base colours on the Undead Legionnaires. Last night I finished up Mr Grimm, the Predator Drone from Anvil Industries so technically that counts as progress towards Project 1.

The project log I wasn't going to do

..but now that I have an airbrush and I have figured out how to use it without spraying paint in my face, my main projects suddenly seem doable.

Here are my top 5 (out of about 20!)

Project 1: Kelly and Kelly

To do: 

Tidy up the greenstuff on the legs of the converted version and paint both. Base my Unity Council Predator Drone from Anvil Industries. What, you didn't think she was checking her facebook page did you?

Project 2: Dark Legion

To do:

Paint everything here. Phase 2 requires me to assemble and paint my Black Widow, Razides and Stalkers.

Project 3: 200 Point IG Kill Team

To do:

Inspired by Warren (from Beasts of War) and his rediscovered enthusiasm for 40k. Source - or possibly *gulp* sculpt - some arms. Buy a Taurox and the wheel kit from Victoria Miniatures. Paint it all.

Project 4: Star Wars minis

To do:

After messing up most of these with a bad undercoat, they are finally stripped and I am ready to start again. I need to scratch build a DC15A and maybe rebuild the DC15S to make it smaller, then paint them up.

Project 5: Pathfinder Tiles

To do:

Lots! Inspired by the Kingmaker adventure path for Pathfinder and the Mighty Empires tiles from GW, these were just an experiment and still need a little more highlighting, some holes drilled in them (for flags / markers) and some magnets on the back. Then I just need to make another ~300 more.

Definitely not cost effective, but fun to make!
